Leaning in to a long-form life

I know I’m not the only one who is looking to step off the constant wheel of go, go, go… Now, this is not to say I am not busy. I actually think I have the most going on that I ever have! What I mean to say, is… I want long-form. In every aspect possible.

I’m tired of the expectation of a quick paced society. Ever present with social media, running here and there, bragging about how busy we all are as a flex of success…

I want long-form. I want long-form connections with people connections that take time to build trust and foster deep bonds, I want to read long form content, I want to bake my own bread (or pizza dough, lets be real) instead of getting in the car and making another stop at the grocery store.

It seems as though with each passing year the expectations of “busy” become more outrageous. Most content creators, business owners and makers who find themselves on social media are stuck in a wheel of content creation for the sake of just staying visible to their audiences

A fast paced society has never felt genuine to who I am as a person. It may be working for some, but I think for most of us if we are honest with ourselves our souls are begging for us to lean in to a long-form life.

I know many of you may think, “How is this achievable?” or “I have a job and kids and…” Maybe you’ll write off what I’m saying because you don’t understand. For those of you who do…If you are looking for a way to long-form your life, start by examining the things in your life you are doing because you “think you should”. Prioritize the things that fill your cup and edit out (within reason) the things that you find yourself doing for the sake of doing them.

A large majority of this for me personally, was the overconsumption lifestyle. I used to find myself at Target, T.J Max spending money on things I don’t really need. This was not only money spent but my time, too. Time is such a precious resource. I started examining and questioning all the things I spent my most precious resources on…

What are things you find yourself giving your precious time and energy to? Are those things necessary? If they aren’t necessary, are they brining you joy? If they aren’t brining you joy what are they adding to your life?

I hope you consider working towards living a long-form life. Find more things that fill you up. Make deeper connections, edit things so you have time for yourself, step off the wheel of creating because you think it’s expected. I promise you the peace you gain when you aren’t trying to conform is worth it.
